Summer Conference
The MTA Summer Conference is a great resource for MTA members, offering union education and professional development sessions as well as speaker series, town halls, movie nights and more.
Rethinking Education for a Transformative Future is the theme of the MTA Summer Conference, which will be held from Sunday, July 28 to Wednesday, July 31 at UMass Amherst. You spoke, and we listened, so you can expect a conference that not only feels different but is different. We are offering an experience that is grounded in connection, reflection and building solidarity.
This year’s conference will include:
- More than 60 workshops on union skills, professional development and anti-oppression
- Built-in opportunities for wellness and movement such as pickle ball and nature walks
- Opening and closing gatherings, as well as a culminating activity where all participants can contribute their pieces to the puzzle
- A Screening of The Busing Battleground, followed by a Q&A with individuals featured in the documentary
- Affinity spaces for cultural identities, regional networks and professions.
- Book club conversations with several authors and hosted by MTA Reads
The evenings will be filled with a robust variety of social activities – board games, puzzling and dancing – plus our traditional FSO Lawn Party.
Most importantly, we will be highlighting the voices and experiences of members who used bargaining and budget crises to transform their local associations and schools, and build community partnerships. You don’t want to miss this conference.
